John Bailey - Managing Director
John Bailey opened ICON’s Singapore office in May 2005 and offers an unrivalled breadth of international experience, having worked in more than 50 countries worldwide in a 21-year career as a Public Relations practitioner and journalist. John joined ICON from the International Air Transport Association in Switzerland, where he launched the successful IATA Crisis Communications consultancy service.
Before moving to IATA in 1998, John was a senior vice president with the international Public Relations firm Fleishman-Hillard in Hong Kong, where he developed and implemented communications programmes for a wide range of clients in different industry sectors across the region.
At IATA, John provided communications counsel and training for many of the leading names in the global aviation and travel industries, working up to CEO and senior executive level with clients such as Airbus, Air Canada, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Delta Air Lines, Embraer, LAN Chile, Lufthansa, Rolls-Royce, SAS Scandinavian Airlines, SkyTeam, Star Alliance and Virgin Atlantic Airways. John was previously a newspaper, magazine and wire service journalist in the UK, the United States and Singapore, where he opened the first regional bureau for the leading aerospace weekly Flight Intenational.
Judith Knight - Client Services Director
Judith joined ICON Singapore team in June 2006 as Lead Consultant. Judith is an experienced marketer and consultant in public relations/customer communications with 10 years of experience and expertise in Asia Pacific.
Most recently, Judith served as a senior member of the technology practice at Burson-Marsteller Singapore. During this time, she played a pivotal role in driving the communications efforts for some the industry’s leading technology companies including Hewlett Packard and SAP Asia Pacific.
Her previous agency experience includes spells with Fleishman-Hillard and Weber Shandwick in Singapore where she counselled clients such as Nortel Networks, Oracle (Singapore), Imation, Intel, ICUS, NetSanity and Hewlett Packard, to name just a few. She also spent four years with software company Lawson (formerly known as Intentia) as their regional marketing manager for the Asia Pacific region and global program manager for the fashion industry.
Judith's professional achievements include recognition as Intentia International's “Global Communicator of the Year” in 2002 and 2003. She was also part of the Weber-Shandwick team which won “Best Event Strategy” for the launch of Hewlett Packard's e-Vectra at the 2000 Asia PR Awards.
Sarada Chellam - Director
Sarada joined ICON as Director, Corporate Practice in February 2008 and has almost 10 years of experience in the international media industry having worked in Asia, Europe and most recently the Middle East, both as a journalist and PR consultant. She is a former broadcast journalist with Bloomberg Television Malaysia covering primarily the travel, tourism and hospitality beats.
In her previous role at MCS/Action Dubai, one the Middle East’s leading PR agencies, Sarada worked closely with the Abu Dhabi government to launch several high-profile international tourism and real estate related projects including the world renowned Saadiyat Island and Cultural District which will be home to the Guggenheim and Louvre museums.
She was also the PR Director for several multi-national hotel brands operating in the region and beyond including The Rezidor Hotel Group, parent company of Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts and Regent Hotels & Resorts. In addition, Sarada work with Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) to successfully launch its Dubai-Copenhagen route and was involved in a number of other international events including the European Tour sanctioned Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, Formula One Festival Abu Dhabi, Justin Timberlake in Abu Dhabi, Arabian Travel Market and the Dubai Airshow.
Adeline Goh - Director
Adeline Goh joined ICON as Director, Corporate Practice, in June 2007, after acquiring 10 years of experience in print and new media publishing as well as corporate communications.
She spent three and a half years as Head, Corporate Communications, at the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, one of the youngest biomedical research institutes under Singapore’s Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). During her time there, she helped build the communications team and had a broad range of responsibilities, including corporate, media and business relations. She also managed a series of high-profile scientific events and conferences, including the 1st and 3rd International Conference on Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (ICBN).
Prior to this, Adeline was the Features Editor at MediaCorp Press TODAY, where she was in charge of a team of journalists who reported on arts, lifestyle and entertainment. She began her journalism career at the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and worked at its flagship newspaper The Straits Times as well as its first integrated newspaper Project Eyeball. As part of the core team at Eyeball, she was directly involved in the conceptualization and development of an integrated news platform encompassing print, broadcast and web. This model was later adapted to other publications in the SPH stable.
Gwen Cheong - Senior Consultant
Gwen Cheong rejoined the ICON Singapore team as a Senior Consultant in September 2007 and brings to the team more than five years’ experience in multinational public relations and advertising agencies. Most recently, Gwen served as the PR and Marketing Communications Manager for technology giant HP’s Personal Systems Group, where she helped develop and implement the communication strategies for its various commercial product categories.
Prior to joining HP, Gwen was a consultant at ICON Singapore, project managing the consultancy’s then-largest account, a corporate social responsibility project for Hitachi Japan. She also managed various other consumer, lifestyle and technology accounts such as Carlson Marketing, Human Dynamics, Lufthansa and Pokerstars.com.
At international consultancy Burson-Marsteller, Gwen served as an Associate, responsible for helping plan and implement the communications strategy for HP’s commercial, enterprise and SMB divisions. The other technology accounts she worked on include Borland, iflex and the ground-breaking initiative, BackPack.net, a collaboration between Microsoft and the Infocommunication Development Authority of Singapore. Gwen was educated in Melbourne, Australia, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Communications from RMIT University, majoring in Public Relations.
Andrew Wong - Consultant
Andrew Wong joined the ICON Singapore team in January 2007 as an Account Executive. He is currently supporting the CII, Frasers Hospitality and Trend Micro accounts.
Prior to joining ICON, he worked in the Republic of Singapore Air Force, learning the first steps to building strong relationships. He has also trained in a branding consultancy with clients such as Sony and also spent time in the legal sector working on construction litigation and contractual law.
In University, Andrew was part of the National Union of Students, participating in national conferences throughout Australia. From his experience in student politics, he has gained a deep appreciation of the need for corporate and government bodies to maintain meaningful relationships with their stakeholders.
Andrew graduated with a Bachelors of Arts (Hons) in Mass Communications (Public Relations and Journalism) from Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia. He also holds a diploma in Legal Studies and a certificate in Commercial Cookery.
Angela Leow Gray - Associate Consultant
Angela joins ICON on the back of almost three years of multicultural experience in fields of event management, media liaison and graphic design.
Being very active in University, Angela was the Vice President of the Singapore Students Society with her main role being in charge of Media and Creative work. Her work also extends into copywriting, design, web content management, event management, editorial publications and marketing initiatives.
Previously, one year was spent with the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club as an events management associate, where she handled major events such as the RSYC Regatta and themed members' night.
More recently, Angela worked for Ogilvy Public Relations Singapore, supporting major accounts such as Eighth Wonder, Jetstar Airways, Rolls-Royce Motorcars, Miele, LogicaCMG, CIMA and the Centre For Fathering.
Currently, Angela is assisting in areas of Technology, Consumer and Corporate, at present working with companies such as Boeing, Singapore Airshow and Carlson Hotels Worldwide.
Angela graduated with a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Western Australia, with a triple major in Asian Business, Electronic Business, and Information Management, giving her the business edge to her creative tendencies.
Roxanne Toh - Account Executive
Roxanne joins the ICON Singapore team as an Account Executive and provides support for the upcoming World Effie Festival 2008, 9th Hitachi Young Leaders Initiative (HYLI) and the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII). Before pursuing her university education, Roxanne was a marketing communications trainee with Audi Asia Pacific, where she worked closely with the regional marketing manager and AP markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines. Her key projects include the launch of the Audi brand in Mumbai and New Delhi; India, as well as the quattro® Driving Experience.
Her experience in the Asia Pacific region also includes working for Inter Press Service in Bangkok as a journalist. During her time there, she covered stories on the environment, politics and human rights in developing countries. Whilst at university, Roxanne was also actively involved in volunteering for the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand (FTAANZ), through developing communication materials for the annual Fair Trade Fortnight event and the Fair Trade Community Initiative. Roxanne graduated from The University of Melbourne, Australia with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Political Science and Cultural Studies. She also holds a Diploma of Mass Communication from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, School of Film and Media Studies (Singapore).
